DeFi Portfolio Manager

Job Description

About Cannon Ventures

Cannon Ventures is a Houston-based entrepreneurial resource and venture platform built to support the full lifecycle of high-potential startups and early-stage businesses. Through our Investor Network and Venture Studio Suite, we connect capital, operators, and builders across the U.S. — from seed-stage founders to institutional partners seeking emerging market exposure. As digital assets become an increasingly critical allocation category for both retail and institutional investors, Cannon Ventures is expanding its digital asset operations to serve the next generation of on-chain investors, DAOs, and Web3-native funds.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and self-directed DeFi Portfolio Manager to lead and actively manage our on-chain investment portfolio across decentralized finance protocols, emerging Layer 1 and Layer 2 ecosystems, and structured yield strategies. The U.S. digital asset market is entering a new phase — institutional inflows, spot ETF adoption, and maturing on-chain infrastructure are creating meaningful alpha opportunities that require deep protocol-level expertise and disciplined capital allocation. This role is for someone who has already been doing this — managing real capital across real protocols — and is ready to do it at a higher level with institutional backing. We are not looking for someone who has studied DeFi. We are looking for someone who lives it.

What You'll Do

  • Actively manage and rebalance a multi-protocol DeFi portfolio across lending, liquidity provision, yield aggregation, and structured on-chain products
  • Identify, evaluate, and size positions in emerging protocols, governance tokens, and early liquidity opportunities
  • Monitor on-chain risk exposure — including smart contract risk, liquidity depth, slippage, and protocol dependencies
  • Develop and maintain portfolio performance reporting: P&L attribution, risk-adjusted returns, drawdown analysis
  • Track regulatory developments, protocol upgrades, governance proposals, and macro conditions affecting on-chain capital flows
  • Collaborate with the Cannon Ventures investment team to align DeFi strategy with broader portfolio objectives
  • Evaluate new chains, bridges, and cross-chain yield opportunities as ecosystem expands
  • Contribute to deal flow sourcing — identifying early-stage DeFi protocols for potential venture investment

What We're Looking For

  • 2–4 years of experience in portfolio management, asset management, or active trading — with direct, hands-on DeFi involvement
  • Demonstrated personal or professional track record managing capital across DeFi protocols (lending, AMMs, vaults, structured products)
  • Deep familiarity with major ecosystems: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Solana, and emerging L2s
  • Working knowledge of on-chain analytics tools: Dune Analytics, Nansen, DefiLlama, Arkham, Zapper, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of tokenomics, liquidity dynamics, impermanent loss, and governance mechanics
  • Ability to assess and price smart contract and counterparty risk
  • Comfortable operating autonomously in a remote-first, fast-moving environment
  • Proficiency in Python or data analysis tools for portfolio tracking and reporting is a plus
  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience in capital markets or digital assets

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $90,000 – $140,000/year
  • 100% Remote — work from anywhere in the United States
  • Flexible working hours structured around protocol activity and team syncs
  • Performance-based bonus tied to risk-adjusted portfolio returns
  • Access to Cannon Ventures' investor network across the U.S. and emerging markets — meaningful for sourcing, deal flow, and career development
  • Annual learning & development budget (tools, data subscriptions, conferences, certifications)
  • Health insurance contribution (contractor-equivalent stipend)
  • Paid U.S. federal holidays + flexible PTO policy
  • Annual company retreats and ecosystem events
